Meet Our Professional Team of Therapist Evaluators

Micah Rees, PhD, Director

Dr. Micah Rees is a Houston-based licensed psychologist specializing in the intersection of clinical mental health and religious identity. Having navigated his own exit from the LDS church, Dr. Rees offers a unique, culturally informed perspective on religious trauma and the identity vacuum that often follows a high-demand religious transition.

He is deeply dedicated to the mission of the Secular Therapy Project, where he works to ensure that clients seeking non-religious or secular-affirming care have access to vetted, evidence-based psychological services. Dr. Rees bridges the gap between lived experience and clinical rigor, providing a nuanced space for clients to deconstruct, heal, and redefine their values.

Through his PSYPACT authorization, Dr. Rees extends his practice via telepsychology to over 40 states, treating both specialized religious trauma and broader mental health concerns. To learn more, visit his practice site.

Dana Hampson, LPC-S, MBA, Evaluation Director

Dana Hampson is a licensed professional counselor and co-owner of The Balanced Life, a counseling, training and practice building business located in North Alabama. Dana has been a therapist for over 25 years and works with adults dealing with quarter and mid-life transitions and enjoys helping clients learn how to assertively communicate, let go of people-pleasing tendencies and confidently set and follow through with boundaries. She has a special interest in helping those who are questioning their faith, deconverting from religion and/ or recovering from religious trauma. As a former conservative Christian who still lives deep in the Bible Belt, Dana understands the pain and confusion often associated with leaving an ingrained belief system and is honored to walk on that journey with her clients. In her free time, Dana teaches and practices yoga, loves reading and relaxing by the pool and enjoys spending time with her family.

Jonathan Leitch, PhD, LCSW, Evaluation Team Member

Jonathan Leitch is a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in New York City. After working in preventive services for several years and training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, he completed a doctorate in couple and family therapy at Antioch University New England. His dissertation research explored the therapy experiences of nonreligious people estranged from their families over religious differences. Jonathan advocates loving the believer, not the belief, and finds the tensions between science and religion endlessly fascinating and endlessly frustrating.

Geoffrey Richie, M.S., LMHC, Evaluation Team Member

Geof Richie is trained in clinical psychology and has worked as a mental health counselor since 2012. He specializes in LGBTQ+ youth and adults, religious trauma and deconstruction, physical and sexual trauma, and consensual non-monogamy. Geof approaches therapy from a foundation in Person-Centered Therapy, incorporating psychoeducation, CBT, DBT, exposure therapy, and socratic questioning. His approach to developing rapport is sometimes unconventional, but ultimately effective. Geof has been a vetted therapist with STP for over 5 years. In that time, he has treated many people seeking secular therapy for religious recovery. Statement: "I am proud to stand among the therapists who have stepped up to reject supernatural influence in mental health care. We provide an evidence-based approach to mental health care that works for anyone needing support."
